Canola and Biofuel Recognition Day at Omak, Wednesday, October 21
The Colville Confederated Tribes (CCT) and the USDA-ARS will host a Canola Recognition Day on October 21 at the Paschal Sherman Indian School in Omak. The Colville Canola Partnership plans to install an oilseed crusher and biodiesel plant that will fuel CCT�s 70 school buses and logging trucks from locally-grown canola. The project could produce $8.8 million in revenue every year for tribal groups and surrounding communities.
Morning events will include discussion of production strategies for cultivating commercial winter canola crops on tribal lands and filling a school bus fuel tank with biodiesel generated from a local canola crop. After lunch, representatives from ARS, the primary scientific research agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, will conduct a tour of the winter canola research plots at the Ed Townsend Farm, two miles east of Okanogan on Cameron Lake Road.
The event will run from10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m on Wednesday October 21. Meet at the Paschal Sherman Indian School, 169 North End Omak Lake Road in Omak. The meeting is free and open to all interested, but the CCT requests participants contact them ahead of time for catering purposes.
